Rocky Feels Pressure to Win

Gambles Career on Rookie

After many seasons of sub 0.500 softball, the Deadwood fans proved themselves to be the most faithful in the league. Winning wasn't as important to them as the social enjoyment of the game. But then things changed. When coach Rocky took the Deadwoods to their first tournament finals, the fans were elated. They had never known the enjoyment of watching a well-coached game before. They seemed content with the level achieved by their beloved Deadwoods. Then expectations began to rise. Rocky continued to meet and exceed those expectations, winning back-to-back regular season titles in '94 and '95 with a combined record of 33-3-0. Again, Rocky took the ŚWoods to the league tournament finals in '95, ending in a disappointing 24-7 loss to their archrival, the Sandbaggers. Rocky has proven himself to be the winningest coach in Deadwood history. Despite his success, the Deadwood fans want more. "We want to win the D-League tournament" says Liz Kral of the Deadwood faithful. "And if Rocky can't take us there, then we should find someone who can."

Flex during the 1995 "Mr. Algonquin" Competition
What is Rocky's answer to this challenge? "We need some new blood on this team" says Rocky. I've got a rookie coming on board who is going to turn this team around." Rocky is referring to Flex, the highly touted recruit from Algonquin, IL. Voted "Mr. Softball" by the Chicago Times, Flex is a hard hitting lefty who is sure to challenge the D-League right fielders this season. Boasting a 540 lb benchpress and 24 inch biceps, Flex provides the power the Deadwoods need. Can Flex take the ŚWoods to the promised land? Flex answers the question with confidence. "I'm going to give the fans what they want." When asked what he thought about Deadwood-rivals such as the Sandiabaggers and The Finite Elephants, Flex responded "those guys are fags."
